Coarticulation, makes the problem of invariance worse because we the acoustics or given speech sounds are diferent in diferent contexts. Contrast sensitivity, makes the problem of invariance better, helps us deal with the part that is driven by coarticulation. Helps undo the efects of coarticulation in perception. Problem with speech segmentation: the problem is iguring out where one word ends and one word begins in continuous speech.
