-Dominant vs Popular Culture (Stuart Hall): Kultur är något som är dynamiskt och
därför förändras med tiden. Man pratar ofta om skillnaden emellan kultur och society.
Medans kultur är allt ifrån språk, traditioner och musik, så är society institutioner så
som government, police etc. Stuart Hall säger att kultur ständigt förändras, är
dynamiskt och kontinuerlig och i sin artikel försöker han definiera populär kultur och
konsekvenserna ifrån det. Hall delar upp definitionen utav populär kultur i två delar.
Han menar att populär kultur sprider sig fort och är kommersiell. Med dominant
kultur så menar Hall att kultur industrin bestämmer och omorganiserar populär kultur. !
-Social Fields: Social fields are environment which competition between individuals
and between groups take place. By dominant cultures always disorganize and
restructure popular culture to make it more similar to dominant culture. Hall means
that cultural fields are a constant battlefield when it consistently faces resistance,
acceptance, refusal, and capitulation. !
-Consent and resistance: Hall menar att antingen känner du medgivande till populär
kultur eller så känner du motstånd till det. Ofta så delas åsikterna om populär kultur
upp i klasskillnader. Ofta så känner medelklassen consent för populär kultur eller low
culture medans överklassen känner motstånd emot det och oftast gillar mer high
culture.!

Arjun Appadurai’s concept of ’scapes: Global exchange of ideas and information
-Ethnoscape: Migration of people across cultures and borders, presenting the world
and its communities as fluid and mobile instead of static.
-- Technoscape: New types of cultural interactions and exchange through the power of
technology.
-Finanscapes: Technology is closely related with the finanscape that is close tied with
the economy, which constantly flux, and despite our best efforts to manipulate it, it’s
very unpredictable.
-Mediascape: Understood as the many media outlets (TV, Radio, Newspaper etc…)
that shape our the imagined world. The stories and pictures we are shown through
these mediums form our opinions about a place or culture.
-Ideoscape: Ideologies of a government and those who oppose it and it’s highly
dependent on the context of the spectator.
Mediation and Culture: How different cultural backgrounds can affect how people
solve conflicts and disputes. Mediation is a tool that helps to decrease the gap between
differences, and this requires knowing and respecting cultures that you meet.
