Prima facia duties: what we ought to do determinates, duty that is binding (obligatory) other things equal, that is, unless it is overridden or trumped by another duty or duties. Example: we have the duty to keep a promise, that is, unless there is a stronger moral considerations override ones ought-ness to keep a promise that they made. No prima facia duty is more important than any other. They are all equally important and equal in statute. If there is a duty that needs to be overridden, prima facia duties are often not enough to determine what we should do: since all duties are equal, there is no one that is more important binding. Eliminating ability to determine in the situations we face which duties do or do not hold priority. Modifications: duties that society hold in similar regards to the 5 prima facia duties.
