Document Summary

Dna or rna genomes single stranded or double stranded circular or linear limited host range - usually specific bacterium. Ch. 7 dna structure, replication, transcription, translation, gene regulation. Dna is made of nucleotides with deoxy nucleic sugar as the backbone. Dispersive model-strands would come apart and mix up. Semiconservative-strands pull apart and one old strand is the template, so the daughter strand has one new and one old strand. Proved the e. coli use the semiconservative model to make new dna. Waited 20 minutes for e. coli to regenerate. New dna of e. coli had both parent and new strand molecules. Antiparallel strands on in the 5"---->3" end and the opposite in the 3"---->5" end. Central dogma: dna replication to dna transcription to rna translation to protein synthesis. Helicases are involved in every aspect of nucleic acid metabolism in the cell, (dna replication, repair, recombination, transcription, and protein translation): the helicases in dna replication form a hexameric ring structure.
