They were also dietary restrictions, no killing of animals. As a world religion buddhism was a missionary religion. Missionary religions, believe not only that they are all different, but that the differences are so consequential that they cannot be dismissed: therefore those who know the truth are obliged to spread it. The law of karma means that the living creatures are reborn again and again, for better or worse depending on their moral conduct in previous lives.
