There are chemicals and other pollutants that are found in water which are used for everyday household activities. Some of these chemicals also are essential to our survival as human beings. Photocatalysis, a solar energy product, has great potential to be used as an alternative method of cleaning water. It can be used to eat away harmful substances found in water by using an advanced oxidizing process. By using photocatalysis, water can be detoxified quickly and be readily available for human use. Patent: barnett, a. m. , carlson, d. e. , doolittle, w. a. , honsberg, c. b. , & kirkpatrick, d. a. (2008). This patent describes the development of a new solar cell that is supposed to have a higher efficiency. The patent gives a background of the invention, the first cells that were developed and states that a need has arisen to improve efficiency from the measly energy it currently outputs.
