Who works in field of csd: the professionals. Speech disorder: problem w/ speech process. Language disorder: problem w/ comprehending and/or using symbol systems. Spoken, written, gesture, etc: hearing disorder. 17% of total u. s. population have some communication disorders: 15% of americans 18+ report some trouble hearing, 6% of total u. s. pop have speech, voice, and/or language disorder. Prevalence of communication disorders is expected to rise, partly due to: aging pop, rising number of immigrants. Do not receive enough information and prevention for at-risk individuals. Not because they do not language: medical advances resulting in increased numbers of at-risk individuals. People are more likely to survive stroke. May have trouble communicating: expanded scope of practice of slps and auds. Employment for both slps and auds is expected to grow form 2012-2022: 19% for slps, 34% for auds. Both jobs are consistently rated among top jobs: slps in 2014.
