The system that circulates blood through the body; consists of the heart and blood vessels: heart: a four-chambered, first-sized muscle located beneath the sternum. It pumps deoxygenated (oxygen-poor) blood to the lungs and delivers oxygenated (oxygen-rich) blood to the rest of the body. Blood travels through two separate circulatory systems: the pulmunary circulation (right side) that pumps blood to the lungs, and systemic circulation (left side) that pumps blood to the the rest of the body. Atria: top of the heart, thick walls and separated by interatrial septum. Right atrium: receives deoxygenated blood from venous system. Tricuspid valve separates right atrium from right ventriculum.
