Strong response during motion; below baseline after motion. Area motion (mt: selective response to detection of motion (fires to motion, large receptive fields. Area v1: doesn"t care if it"s moving or stationary fires at both. But across time, blank screen creates increasingly negative firing = motion aftereffect. Increased coherence of dots, so did firing of mt neurons & judgement accuracy. The brain can tel which direction the dots are moving in, even if only 20% of the dots are moving in the same direction and the rest, 80%, are random. The brain can still identify the right direction. Activity of a complex cell does not provide accurate information about direction of mvt. Biological motion: movement of person or other living organism. Point-light walker stimulus lights in specific places on person. Structure-from-motion: a photogrammetric range imaging technique for estimating three-dimensionalstructures from two-dimensional image sequences that may be coupled with local motion signals.
