PSYC 311 Chapter Notes - Chapter Reading - Prefrontal Lobes and Memory - Petrides: Posterior Parietal Cortex, Prefrontal Cortex, Brodmann Area 44
Document Summary
Posterior prefrontal cortex lies immediately in front of the central sulcus and consists of the motor cortex. The term frontal is often used to refer to this anterior part of the frontal cortex, excluding the motor and premotor cortex on the precentral gyrus. Early investigators have often referred to the prefrontal cortex as the seat of intelligence and its involvement in the highest forms of mental activity has frequently been asserted. However, many studies have shown that extensive damage to this region need not impair performance on conventional intelligence tests. Instead, deficits have been found in tasks that require a certain degree of planning and flexibility of response. Which have differences in their connections with other cortical and subcortical regions. The most caudal part of the lateral frontal cortex precentral gyrus (motor area 4 and 6). Rostral to the precentral gyrus, the lateral frontal cortex, can be subdivided into: dorsolateral and ventrolateral.
