The creative experience is also a process of selecting and evaluating. For the artist, the creative process involves selecting and evaluating each component before deciding if or how to include it in the final form. Quality of artwork is relative as it varies person to person. Value judgements about art necessarily involve subjectivity; its not possible to measure artistic quality objectively. The level of traditional skill that an artist shows may be relevant to a judgement of quality, but rarely gives the final answer. What we find in a work of art depends on what we are looking for. Personal value orientation lead us to make judgements about the works of art we encounter. Each of us applies these assumptions about the function of art each time we look at a work.
