Ecology is a branch of science dedicated to the study of relationships between organisms and environment. Hunters had to be familiar with the habits of their prey and farmers and ranchers must be aware of how variations in weather and soil affect their crop and livestock. A society that ignores ecological changes is at risk of losing the life sustaining services ecosystems provide. Ecology is now being turned to offer solutions for problems generated by anthropogenic activities. Ecology comes from oikos greek word for house. Because more people live in urban areas people think ecology is a dying field but it"s not as ecological processes don"t end at park boundaries. Ecologist study environmental relationships ranging from those of individual organism to factors influencing global scale processes. Biosphere- role of co2 in regulation of temp. Landscape- factors controlling the movement of mammals fragmented landscape.
