From the beginning of media development, we are thinking about their effect on human behaviour & well being: this is the case from earliest mass media to later forms (like video games, the internet, etc. ) With all of the aforementioned cases, expressions of concern from prominent public. Gures have led to panic that ironically enough is spread through media forms (like newspaper, radio, t. v. , etc. ) Media are often said to have effects but they can be benevolent or malevolent (good natured or bad) depending on perspective. Ne distinction b/w propaganda and publicity propaganda is generally considered evil, and as the saying goes any publicity is good publicity. Humans take on particular roles as communicators leaders, followers, watch -keepers: there are 3 specialist functions in any society necessary to achieve harmony in chains of communication: Surveillance of the environment: in human societies, this is typically dealt w/ by nation-states, who assign surveillance roles to diplomats, armies and spies, for example.
