Space -- petra l. doan: reclaiming the word queer" to show alliance within the community no matter, using queer" recognizes the heteronormative nature of most urban spaces and creates a safe place for ppl who identify as queer. Distinguishing gender variant and transgender populations feminism has debated how to move beyond the gender dichotomy. The tyranny of gendered space - a personal story: tyranny: exercise of power which is cruelly or harshly administered. Using power to oppress, over less powered: transgender: someone who does not perform or idenityf as their assigned gender, gender does not easily fit into a dichotomous box. Harassment in public: policing behaviours can be exaggerated by the president of silent bystanders. Individuals feel empowered to act as heteronormativley gender enforcers in public: bystanders hut, streets, elevators, getting yelled at in public.
