Financial: public sector in canada is responsible for almost 70% of total health expenditures ! Demographic ageing has not been a major driver of health system costs here! Almost all revenues for public health spending come from general tax revenues of f/ P/t governments (good amount used for universal medicare) ! Remaining amount is used to subsidize other types of health care (long-term care & prescription drugs) ! Private side: oop (out of pocket expenses) payments & phi (protected health information: any info in medical record that can be used to identify individual) are responsible for most health revenues ! Majority of phi comes in form of compulsory employment-based insurance for non- medicare goods and services (prescription drugs, dental care & vision care) ! Health expenditure: of billion spent on health care, 43% directed to hospital and physician services ! ~30% spent on private health care services (dental & vision care, over-the-counter pharmaceuticals & privately paid prescription drugs)!
