Chapter two: elements of drama (plot, character, setting, theme, mood) Legends, history or currents events can be used as inspiration for storytelling! Structure of story is called plot ! Causal plot: exposition (necessary background info for story), complications (series of events stemming from con ict, each leads to the next building in intensity), climax (moment of greatest tension), resolution (end of story, complications resolved) ! Episodic plot: similar to causal, but rather than complications they have episodes (succession of events that do not build directly from one to the next) ! Flashbacks interrupt chronological ow of story ! Characters need to appeal to an audience through psychological makeup, con icts endured, & changes undergone ! Both location & time frame where story takes place ! Can run counter to the mood or action of a story ! Period lm: movie set in a de ned historical era (enforced by costumes, scenery & manners) !
