Your cognitive ability to put people, objects and ideas into categories and concepts help you to efficiently process through the incoming data stream and make appropriate responses. We quickly process stimuli by organizing them into categories. Decisions are made more efficient by your ability to quickly categorize incoming stimuli. Without the ability to categorize, every decision becomes overwhelming. Without the ability to categorize, every sensory experience would be completely unique. You would be unable to draw connections from the past and would be forced to make unique decisions on even the most routine actions. Classification groups dissimilar objects into the same category. 4 basic functions of categorization: classification. Classification allows you to treat objects that appear differently as belonging together.
