Separate the mental processes of the mind and the physical processes of the brain. The mind is a separate entity and exists outside of the body, but controls our thoughts. Can be studied alongside psychology at multiple levels. Transmission zone: pass on signals to other cells, made up of axon and terminal ends. Glial cells support, nourish, and provide insulation for neurons: provide structural support, these cells work together. Connect with each other to form complex networks. Neural networks and brain chemistry can explain thrill-seeking behaviours. Changes in neurotransmitter balance can have great impact on behaviour. Cell membrane is permeable: contains protein channels, potassium and sodium channel. This begins in the receptive zone of the neuron. Actin potential cascades along the axon towards the terminal boutons. Myelin enhances the travelling speed of action potentials down an axon. Neurons encode signals through frequency, not size, of action potentials: communication between neurons occurs at the synapse.
