PSYCH 2AA3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Habituation, Cortisol, Type I And Type Ii Errors
Document Summary
Systematic observation involves watching children and carefully recording what they do or say. Naturalistic observation children are observed as they behave and spontaneously in some real-life situation. Researchers cant keep track of everything, therefore they must decide which variables factors subject to change, to record. Structured observation researcher creates a setting likely to elicit to behaviour of interest: useful for studying behaviours that are difficult to observe naturally. Other behaviours are difficult to observe because they occur in a private setting, not a public one. Specific form of observer bias is expectancy effect observer"s expectancies influences their observations. Observer bias can be overcome by blind observation having someone who does not know the hypothesis make the observations. Way to check that the observer is unbiased is to perform an inter-observer reliability check two observers using the same agreed-upon measures perform observations.
