From adolescence to adulthood is a major transition (assumption of responsibility for independent living as well as redefinition of relationships with family and peer) Educational attainment and employment opportunity play an important role in a successful transition process. Need hard skills like: budgeting, self care. Soft skills like: self-awareness, dealing with feelings, interpersonal skills. Native youth face additional transition challengers resulting from the loss of important caring figures. Most native children will have lost 2 significant people by the age of 6, which has a negative impact on social and emotional maturation. Difficulties in identity development and psychological adjustment associated with the fact that their ethnic and racial status are often subject to pervasive negative stereotypes projected by major culture. Conflict between their beliefs and mainstream beliefs. Lochner and murphy say to develop best adjustment, individuals need to develop their own sense of the meaning od their ethnicity.
