Intergroup bias means that organizations will have to pay special attention to managing relationships between the various teams is has. If a task involves two or more parties depending on each other to get the task done, there is a potential for conflict to arise. Interdependence also implies that each party has some power over the other; this power can be easily abused. Interdependence doesn"t always lead to conflict; it may provide a basis for collaboration. Modes of managing conflict: the ways of dealing with conflict depend on how assertive you are in satisfying your group"s concerns, and how cooperative you are in satisfying the other group"s concerns (see chart on page 457) Intermediate levels of assertiveness and cooperation: an attempt to satisfice rather than maximize your outcomes and those of the other party, ex. a plea bargain between a defending lawyer and a prosecutor.
