Organizational behaviour is the study of what people feel, think and do in & around organizations. Values are stable, evaluative beliefs that guide our preferences for outcomes or course of actions in different situations. Ethics is the study of moral principles/values that determine whether our actions are right/wrong & outcomes are good/bad. Chapter 3: perceiving ourselves & others in organizations: self-concept: how we perceive ourselves. We compare images of the career w/ our perceived/current & desired/ideal self; we also evaluate current & desired competencies to determine if it"s a good fit. A person"s self-concept helps explain attitudes, motivation, decisions & behaviours in the workplace. Well-being tends to increase w/ high self-concept clarity b/c when we lack confidence, we tend to be easily influenced by others, experience more stress & feel more threatened by social forces. Tends to improve performance & considered vital for leadership roles but could potentially have role inflexibility, ie can"t adapt to changing job duties.
