Chapter : head, face, and neck, including regional lymphatic system. Skulll- rigid, bone that protects brain and special sense organs. Cranial bones= frontal, pariental, occipital and temporal. Supported by cervical vertebrae- atlas down to c7 which is palpable when head is flexed ( you can feel the vertebra prominens on your own neck. Facial muscles innervated by facial nerve (cnvii) Facial structures and features are generally symmetrical ie: eyes, eyebrows, nose and mouth and palpebral fissures. Temporal artery lies superior to the temporalis muscle and it"s pulsation can be palpable anterior to the ear. Head and neck have rich lymph node supply. Pregnant women: thyroid gland enlarges slightly during pregnancy as a result to hyperplasia of the tissue and increased vascularity. Older adults: facial bones and orbits appear more promonient and facial skin sags as sa result of decreased elasticity, decrease in subcutaneous fat and decrease in moisture in the skin.
