The habits of our minds plus our culture, encourage us to shut down our observations so that we literally notice and remember less. Slow down, stop drawing conclusions before you"ve spent time only attending to the data. Idea first, look later anxiety: the dogfish problem (starting a thesis (or theory if scientist) before interpreting the data. People often decide too quickly that they understand something which results in them seeing less (at this point they stop looking further). A better approach is to deliberately assume that you don"t understand .
