The state is an organized political structure that carries out tasks required by more complex societies as their population and geographic size increase, as warfare and trade expand, and as social inequalities become more extreme. Government is only one aspect of the state. Agrarian societies owning class was in direct control of the state. Capitalist societies owning class is separated from the state. Economic sphere is privatized it comes under full and direct control of the dominant class, social activities that were formerly carried out by owning class are transferred to state (public sphere) i. e. military, administrative, and legal functions. Pluralism society consists of a variety of groups and associations with highly diverse and often conflicting interests. Key function is mediation between interest groups. State is a body that acts on behalf of society as a whole.
