Number of youth involved in system commonly referred to as correctional services - can be measured in diff ways. Correctional services - custodial institutions & probation services for youth offenders in. Number of youth in correctional system reported in 3 ways. Counts - give us indication of how many youth in system on any one day/in any one month. Admissions - number of youth who have gone through system in any one year. Admission figures - measure of how many youth moving through custody, receiving programs, experiencing system. Counts - tell us about capacity & are of use to correctional institutions & probation officials for administrative & operational purposes. When counts higher than admissions, suggests youth are entering system faster than they are being released. Rates - reflection of youth population as whole & make sense when we are interested in police crime statistics.
