If thinking is for doing then thinking is for relating. Social cognition is the heart of social psychology. Research on relationships has recaptured researchers" attention, of late. Reinvestigation of social cognitive processes in the context of relationships taking place. Theoretical linkages between social cognition and relationship research. A big goal for many is relationship-oriented. Many people"s life goals include attainment, maintenance, and enhancement of desired relationships. A lot of human activity strives towards relation-relevant constructs. The above point explains which social cognition frequently revolves around relationships. Interesting point/evidence: people are not so much concerned with knowing what others are like as with what it will be like to interact with them . In essence, social cognitive processes are borne from a need to make sense of others and know how to interact with them.
