Osteoarthritis: osteoarthritis (oa), aka degenerative arthritis, is a common condition that affects any joint in the body. It is a condition of the joint that worsens with time. Hypertension : sustained elevation of systemic arterial blood pressure (bp). It is defined as a systolic blood pressure equal to or greater than 149 mm hg or a diastolic blood pressure equal to or greater than 90 mm hg. Hypertension is the most significant modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease and mortality rate in canada and is predicted to become the number one cause of death and disability worldwide by 2020. According to canadian health measures survey (chms) approximately 19% of adults ages 20 - 79 years have hypertension, with the rates increasing with age. Health promotion and maintenance for older adults include lifestyle modifications that aim to prevent disease, slow down debilitating effects of disease and maintain a high quality of life even with chronic diseases.
