The lecture notes for this module contain comments and additional information on (a) the four types of contingencies, (b) distinguishing between intrinsic, extrinsic, natural, and contrived contingencies, and (c) reinforcers and punishers. Make sure that you can correctly identify examples of the different types of contingencies. You will, for sure, be given questions on the nal exam in which you have to identify the type of contingency involved in a particular example. You will also be given a question in which the contingency is worded in a tricky way, as discussed on page 245 of your textbook. Distinguishing between intrinsic, extrinsic, natural, and contrived contingencies. Remember that, as noted in the textbook, it is sometimes dif cult to distinguish (a) between intrinsic versus extrinsic contingencies and (b) between natural versus contrived [arti cial] contingencies. The important thing, however, is to be able to differentiate between clear examples of these contingencies.
