ACCT 4290 Chapter Notes - Chapter 20: Systems Analysis, System Integration, Competitive Advantage
Document Summary
Chapter 20: introduction to systems development & systems analysis. Improved business processes: changes in user or business needs, competitive advantage. The systems development life cycle: 5-step process used to design + implement a new system. If proposed project is feasible, information needs of system users and managers are identified and documented. Systems analysis report is prepared and submitted to the information systems steering committee. Step 5: operations & maintenance: where system is periodically reviewed, and necessary modifications and improvements are made. Eventually, a major modification/system replacement is necessary and the sdlc begins again. Note: throughout 5 phases, (planning, managing behavioural reactions to change and assessing the ongoing feasibility of the project) are performed throughout the life cycle. Planning has distinct advantages enables system"s goals/objectives to correspond to organization"s overall strategic plan. Sound basis for selecting new applications for development: avoid duplication, wasted effort and cost/time inefficiencies. Prepared by information systems steering committee: often 3-year planning horizon.
