Cells require unending supply of oxygen and as cells use oxygen they give of carbon dioxide, a waste product body must get rid of. Respiratory system oversee the gas exchanges that occur between blood and external environment. Using blood as carrier fluid, cardiovascular system transport respiratory gases between the lungs and he tissue cells. Gas exchange happens in alveoli (air sacs), other organs are conducting passageways that allow air to reach lungs. Interior of nose consists of nasal cavity, divided by nasal septum. During breathing air enter nose through nostrils or nares. Respiratory mucosa lines nasal cavity warms air is it flows in. Sticky mucus produced by mucosa"s glands moistens the air and traps incoming bacteria and other foreign debris, and lysozyme enzymes in mucus destroy bacteria. External temperature is cold cilia become sluggish, allow mucus to accumulate in nasal cavity.
