Chapter 10: behind the scenes - software programming. Programming is mandatory for users who cant find an existing software product to accomplish a task. Basic knowledge of programming allows you to add features that support personal needs (ex: custom built mini-programs called macros) A system is a collection of pieces working together to achieve a common goal. An information system includes data, people, procedures, hardware, and software that help in planning and decision making: help run an office and coordinate online-purchasing systems and are behind database-driven applications used by amazon and netflix. Need process to develop a system because teams of people are involved so there needs to be an organized way of doing things in an orderly fashion: the system development life cycle (sdlc) is used. Also, feasible assessment is determining whether the project should go forward: design: details the software, inputs and outputs, backups and controls, and processing requirements.
