Every human body system functions optimally at the beginning of adulthood: 68. 4% of young adults reported that their physical health was either very good or excellent. The sexual-reproductive system is at its strongest during emerging adulthood: miscarriage is less common, and serious birth complications are unusual. The more common destructive risks are: unprotected sex with a new partner, driving fast without a seat belt, abusing drugs, addictive gambling. Drug abuse, the ingestion of a drug to the extent that it impairs the user"s biological or psychological well-being. More often, abusers are also addicts common during emerging adulthood (those in university and college). Many think piaget"s 4th stage, formal operational thought is inadequate to describe adult cognition. Some think that formal and postformal thought are more affected by culture than by maturation.
