Older adults will be politically sophisticated and organized. Older adults will want to keep their affluent lifestyles, social security benefits, health care, comfortable retirement. Ratio of workers to retirees will fall from 3:1 to 2:1. Means to maintain the level of benefits in programs such as social security, the working members will have to pay significantly higher taxes than workers do now. The increase in divorce that has occurred over the past few decades may be cause for this.
