Colbert was responsible for improving the french economy after the french kings had made the nation almost completely bankrupt. He tried to separate the monarchy from the economy and he became the financial minister. Louis xiv believes that revoking the edict of nantes will erase the memory of the troubles and violence that the rise of protestantism brought to europe, in this case france. He calls protestantism a false religion which shows how strongly he opposes this religion. His kingdom is obviously going to be very catholic, as he is forbidding all other religions. He also states that children must be baptized by catholic priests and accompany their parents to church in order to be raised under the right religion. Absolutism is when a monarch has absolute power of his people and land. The medieval system was feudalism, which was a structural hierarchy based on land ownership and type of labour.
