PSYC 1000 Chapter 11.1: PSYC*1000 - 11.1
Document Summary
Motivation: concerns the physiological and psychological processes underlying the initiation of behaviours that direct organisms toward specific goals. Motives include things such as feelings, sensations, and bodily behaviours that lead to the goal. Lower water volume can cause motives to send messages to the brain letting it know you are thirsty. Drive: a biological trigger that tells us we may be deprived of something and causes us to seek out what is needed, such as food and water. When a drive is satisfied, reward centres in the brain become activated. Homeostasis: the body"s physiological processes that allow it to maintain consistent internal states in response to the outer environment. Sometimes humans do things that cannot be explained by homeostasis, such as using energy to stress about controlling emotions. People eat more when they are stressed because the body feels the need to compensate for the all the energy being used to stress out.
