Document Summary

Plant domestication is the act of growing a plant and causing it to change genetically from it"s wild ancestors in order to make it more useful for humans. Plants must spread their offspring to areas where they can thrive and pass on their genes. In order to disperse their seeds, it may sometimes be carried with the wind or float on water. Many trick animals into dispersing their seeds for them by being inside a tasty fruit. Once eaten the animal will either spit or defecate the seed elsewhere. When the seeds aren"t ready yet the fruit will not be ripe, this will deter animals from eating it until the time is right. Humans unconsciously were able to grow larger and tastier fruits because the fruits that they picked to be eaten were often the larger and sweeter ones. This allowed for these seeds to spread , ultimately growing better fruits.
