Balance of trade: a nation"s ratio of exports to imports, a favourable balance of trade or trade surplus (a favourable balance of trade occurs when the value of a country"s exports exceeds that of its imports). In the case of an unfavourable balance of trade or trade deficit the value of the country"s imports exceeds that of it"s exports.
