Document Summary
Hearing audition sense or act of hearing. We hear a wide range of sound but the ones we hear best are those sounds w/ frequencies in a range corresponding to that of the human voice. Ppl w/ normal hearing are acutely sensitive to faint sounds survival/living mechanism. We are also attuned to variations in sounds recognize a friend on the phone immediately. We hear by both air and bone conduction amplitude of sound waves determines their loudness frequency # of complete wavelengths that pass a point in a given time (per second); determines pitch. Pitch tone"s experienced highness or lowness; depends on frequency long waves low frequency, low pitch: short waves high frequency, high pitch. Measure sounds in decibels; zero decibels represents the absolute threshold for hearing every 10 decibels correspond to a tenfold increase in sound intensity. Perceiving pitch: place theory links the pitch we hear w/ the place where the cochlea"s membrane is stimulated.
