Understand the phenomenon of dissociation and how a dissociative disorder might occur. In certain, unusual cases, personality patterns can become deeply entrenched and maladaptive or destructive, which is described as developing a personality disorder. Defining and classifying personality disorders personality disorders (pd): particularly unusual patterns of behaviour (relative to one"s culture) that are maladaptive, distressing to oneself or others, and resistant to change.
