Document Summary
Genes: heritable segment of dna that codes for specific trait. Homozygous: 2 identical alleles of a gene. Heterozygous: 2 different alleles of a gene. Dominant: has effect on phenotype whether homozygous or heterozygous. Recessive: has effect on phenotype in homozygous state. Twin studies: compare similarity between twins, fraternal: dizygotic. Genetics vs. environment: genetics: identical twins = identical genetics, environment: identical twins = most similar possible environment. Heritability coefficient: doesn"t tell us anything about particular person. Darwin & natural selection: adaptation to environment, traits that increase likeliness of survival more likely to be preserved, passed on to offspring: genetic factor increased survivability. Steps of natural selection: mutations & meiosis variation within population, more offsprings than environment can support competition, variation + competition some more fit than others live to pass down dna. Types of adaptions: broad: increases ability to deal w environment, specific: solve specific problems. Ekman"s basic emotions: facial expressions universally recognized.
