PSYC 217 Chapter Notes - Chapter 14: Internal Validity
Document Summary
Discuss issues created by generalizing research results to other populations, including potential problems of relying on university students as research participants. Discuss issues to consider regarding generalization of research results across cultures and ethnic groups. Describe potential problem of generalizing to other experimenters, and suggest possible solutions. Discuss importance of replications, distinguishing between exact and conceptual replications. Distinguish between narrative literature reviews and meta-analyses. External validity is all about the extent to which results of a study can be generalized to other populations and settings. The generalization of each of these aspects can cause issues . Sex considerations, can be a problem as the assumption of similarities between males and females can cause issues. Look on page 289, at figure 14. 1. There are 4 graphs, each one showing a potential outcome of a study on crowding and aggression tested on both males and females. Graph a = no interaction; behaviour of both sexes is identical.
