Chapter 20 the lymphaic system and lymphoid organs and tissues. 2 diferent/overlapping systems: lymphaic system and lymphoid organs and issues. Lymphaic system = returns luids that have leaked from the blood vascular system back to the blood: consists of three parts: Lymph nodes, that cleanse the lymph as it passes through them. Lymphoid organs and issues = provide the structural basis of the immune system: organs house [phagocyic cells + lymphocytes] = ++role in the body"s defense mechanisms/resistance to disease, ex. Lymph nodes = plays a part in both systems. As blood circulates through the body, nutrients, wastes and gases = exchanged between blood/intersiial luid. Hydrostaic/colloid osmoic pressures force luid out of blood at the arterial ends of the cap. bed and most of it reabsorbs at the venous ends. Fluid let behind in issues spaces (~3l) becomes part of intersiial luid. Lymphaic vessels/lymphaics = collect excess protein-containing intersiial luid and returns it to the bloodstream.
