Chapter 6 - how to evaluate research critically. Extent to which the results of a measure vary from one administration to another. Stability of a test, or its tendency to produce the same results when tested on the same people at two different times. Remove items that keep the reliability (i. e. , the alpha) lower than it could be. The scale is adequately reliable and validity is not compromised. The spss procedure will produce all item-total correlations. Correlations of participants" scores on each item with their score overall. Removing those items that have a low discrimination between people scoring high on the test as a whole and those scoring low. Consistency of a test within a test, or the tendency of people to score at the same strength on similar items. You may alter important details when asked to repeat the statement some time later.
