Americans 85 an older are the greatest growing group in. The older population is doubling, and makes up 20% of the overall population. People used to die of the flu, disease, chronic disease however, many medical processes allow us to live older. Over the next 30 years the people over 65 will double. Now people are dying of their chronic conditions before people used to die of infections or pneumonia our system (health care) is set up to deal with infections and not the chronic things. Extending our biological clock is not necessarily a good thing because it affects our quality of life and it puts a burden on our family. Adele born in 1911: was a stockbroker, still active. We have the first ever mass geriatrics society: many people will be paying for this long healthy and unhealthy longevity, good thing is we are much healthier even in older age.
