Document Summary

Increasing population will require sustainability if we plant to conserve soil, water and ecosystems. Crop land is land used to raise plants for human use; rangeland is land used for grazing livestock agriculture first appeared around 10,000 years ago. Hu(cid:373)a(cid:374)s ha(cid:448)e(cid:374)"t al(cid:449)ays do(cid:374)e agri(cid:272)ulture, it (cid:449)as (cid:1005)(cid:1004),(cid:1004)(cid:1004)(cid:1004) years ago that hu(cid:373)a(cid:374)s (cid:271)ega(cid:374) to cultivate (raise plants from seeds) and to domesticate animals as a source of both food and labour. People engaged in selective breeding or artificial selection of crops and domesticated animals. They chose large, flavourful fruits from the wild and planted those seeds and grew plants bearing the same genes. First by accident, then they learned and adapted this idea. Due to this, people began settling in more permanent camps near water. This increase in food supply by agriculture prompted population increase and that population increase prompted the need for more agriculture and a positive feedback cycle began.
