The distribution of disease and injuries in human populations (epidemiology) Endemic the constant presence of a disease within a given geographic area or usual prevalence of a given disease within such area. Epidemic the occurrence in a community region of a group of illnesses, of similar nature, in excess to normal expectancy or a marked rise in frequency of specific infectious diseases in a community over a limited period. Epidemics can be quantitatively defined for some diseases and it is specific to space, place and time. To define an epidemic, we need to know the nature of the spread, number of cases, case-fatality and area affected. Efforts to quarantine(separate people with the disease) and isolate them to limit the spread of the epidemic. Shortages of physicians and nurses are met by providing incentives.
