BIOB10H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 18, 692-696, 701-708, 710-711: Phase-Contrast Microscopy, Differential Interference Contrast Microscopy, Eyepiece
Document Summary
Chapter 18: techniques in cell and molecular biology. Microscope are instruments that produced an enlarged image of an object. Light source is used to illuminate the specimen and it is built outside of the microscope. Condenser lens allows illuminated the specimen with a small cone of bright light that allows small part of the specimen to be seen after magnification. Objective lens collects the light rays focused on the specimen by the condenser lens. Ocular lens is used to enlarge the object and form a virtual image. The quality of the image and the detail of it depends on the resolution of the microscope. Increase the magnification of the ocular may make small objects clearly visible to the eye. Resolution attained by microscope is limited by diffraction. Another term for visibility is contrast; the difference in appearance between an object and its background.
