Document Summary
Quantum mechanics: the theory that explains the behaviour of the absolutely small. The quantum-mechanical model of the atom, a model that explains how electrons exist in atoms and how those electrons determine the chemical & physical properties of elements. Rutherford"s version of the atom: fails to explain many phenomena. Electrons = small hard to understand through observation: observation of an electron (cid:0) e- behaves differently. Light = many similarities w/ electrons: wave-particle duality of light. [7. 1] electromagnetic radiation | electromagnetic radiation can be described as a wave composed of oscillating electric & magnetic fields. Electric field a region where an electrically charges particle experiences a force: i. e. proton has an electric field around it if a charged particle into the field, particle will experience a force. Magnetic field a space where a magnetic particle experiences a force: i. e. a magnet has a magnetic field around it if another magnet is brought into that field, that magnet will experience a force.
