Named the house he and his wife shared kimberley house, near tiny village of the same name. Kimberley derived from the anglo-saxon word ynburgh-leah which means women were entitled to own land . Hell breaking loose in diamond booming town known as new rush (name seemed vulgar) Springing up on a farm named vooruitzicht (name stumbled inelegantly off english tongues) Saw golden opportunity to attract favourable notice to himself at the highest levels in london. Did this by proposing a new name for the town. Has mine museum, largest hand-dug hole on earth, and the registered head office of the biggest diamond company in the world. Considered the spiritual capital of the modern diamond industry. Is where the first significant diamond find since antiquity was made.
